The derby brings the local surf-fishing community together for a single tide window of friendly competition — photo-based scoring, careful catch-and-release handling, and a real shot at the provisional leaderboard for every angler on the beach.
Juniors and families fish alongside veterans. Sponsors show up for the anglers, not the spectacle. And every entry fee supports a larger purpose: 100% of profits go to the charities backed by Friedman Adventures.

Three steps between you and a scored fish.
Nothing to memorize on the beach. If you can catch, measure, and photograph, you can fish the derby.

Catch
Land an eligible fish from within the official shore-fishing boundaries during tournament hours. Approved gear only.

Measure
Place the fish on an approved measuring device with the full fish and the event identifier clearly visible in a single frame.
- 03
Release and Submit
Photograph the fish, release it promptly whenever possible, and upload the catch through the angler portal before the cutoff.

Best five verified fish by total length. Each verified catch is rounded down to the nearest quarter-inch, and only approved species count toward your total. Your top five lengths add up to your final score — pursue one giant or a stack of solid fish, both strategies win derbies.
